Welcome to the Primary Setup Tool - Version V4.1

With the Primary Setup Tool (PST), you can assign addresses and network parameters to SIMATIC NET network components, Ethernet CPs and gateways.

This allows you to establish basic communication capability of the components on the particular network without other configuration tools.

1         Note on the readme file

Please read the readme file thoroughly before using Primary Setup Tool.

The notes in the readme file contain extra up-to-date information on the product.
They expand the explanations in the manuals.

The readme file can be opened in the Start menu after installation.

Start > SIMATIC > Product Notes > [language] > Primary Setup Tool - Readme

The Primary Setup Tool can also be downloaded from the Internet at:

http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/19440762.

This Web page also contains further information on the Primary Setup Tool.

2         Operating systems

2.1        Operating systems supported

The Primary Setup Tool can be installed and used with the following operating systems:

·         32-bit operating systems

     Windows XP Professional SP3

     Windows 7 Professional / Ultimate SP1

·         64-bit operating systems

     Windows 7 Professional / Ultimate

Windows Server 2008 Standard Server R2

2.2        Upgrade to newer Windows operating systems

1. Uninstall the Primary Setup Tool.

2. Install the upgrade to the new Windows operating system.

3. Install the Primary Setup Tool.

2.3        Multiple operating systems on one computer

SIMATIC NET PC software products are supported only on computers on which one operating system (and one only) is installed.

Computers with multiple selectable operating systems are not permitted.

3         Configuration limits

PST allows the detection of up to 2000 nodes in the network.

4         Notes on the devices

4.1        CP 443-1EX40 V1

Modules of the type CP443-1EX40 V1 always return 0.0.0.0 as the router address, even if a different address was configured. In the Primary Setup Tool, after browsing the network, the option “Use router” under “Ind. Ethernet interface” will always be disabled for this type of module.

4.2        CP 1512

When operating the Primary Setup Tool via a CP 1512 that is connected via a PCI CardBus controller, the DLC or DCP frames are sporadically lost.

This can result in:

·         a module not being displayed in the list of found stations.
Remedy: Browse the network again.

·         the message "The module is not accessible..." when browsing the network.
Remedy: Confirm the message.
The module is displayed in the list.
It is possible to download parameters to this module.

·         the message "The module is not accessible" appears when downloading parameters to the module.
Remedy: In this case, check whether the parameters have been transferred successfully by starting Network > Browse.
If necessary, repeat the download.

4.3        CP 443-1EX11

Modules of the type CP 443-1EX11 that are assigned their MAC address in the configuration lose this if they are assigned an IP address via the DLC protocol. If you want the configured MAC address to be retained, assign the IP address only from the configuration in STEP 7.

4.4        CP 1616

The operation of modules of type CP 1616 as network adapters is not permitted.

5         Problems and remedies

Below, you will find several problem situations that can occur when using the Primary Setup Tool.

5.1        Installing the DLC protocol

When you install the Primary Setup Tool, you also have the option of installing the DLC protocol at the same time.

·         Note:
The DLC protocol is not supported in 64-bit operating systems. The DLC protocol is not available either in the setup or during operation of the Primary Setup Tool.

To avoid prolonging the browsing of the network unnecessarily, you should only install the DLC protocol if your network includes modules that only support the DLC protocol and do not support the DCP protocol.

This applies to the following Siemens modules:

·         CP 443-1 (6GK7 443-1EX10 and 6GK7 443-1EX11)

·         Optical/Electrical Switch Modules OSM/ESM (6GK1 105…)

5.2        The network adapter is not visible in the Primary Setup Tool

If the menu command Settings -> Network Adapter fails to display the relevant network adapter, displays the message  "No Ethernet adapter" or does not display anything at all, this may be due to one of the reasons listed below:

·         The network adapter in question has not been inserted / installed or there is no network adapter inserted / installed.

·         The network adapter(s) has / have been disabled in the Control Panel or in the BIOS;

·         Neither the DCP nor the DLC protocol have been enabled for the available network adapter.

·         The TCP/IP protocol was disabled for the network adapter.

·         A network adapter that no longer exists is still known in the Windows Device Manager.
To eliminate this conflict, follow the steps below:
1. Select "View -> Show hidden devices" in the Device Manager
2. Uninstall the out-of-date entries
3. Restart the PC.
It may be necessary to reinstall PST.

5.3        No module found or existing module is not visible

The existing modules / components are browsed on the network using a broadcast service.

These then signal back with their MAC addresses.

The broadcast service is stopped after 3 repeated frames and a 10 second response time.

Possible causes of error:

·         The existing module/component does not meet the requirements for communication with the PST.

·         The DLC protocol is not installed.
Installation of the DLC protocol is described in the Configuration Manual Primary Setup Tool.

·         The network load/utilization is high.
Remedy: Repeat the menu command Network > Browse;

5.4        Module / component is not visible after downloading

Depending on the type of module, it can take up to one minute before the module responds after a download.
Remedy:
Repeat the menu command Network > Browse.

- Use the Module > Update menu command
Note: If you select the "Retain Found Stations" display mode, the devices are always displayed showing the time at which they were last reached.

5.5        Message "No station was detected on the network"

If the message "No station was detected on the network" is displayed after running the Network > Browse menu command even though there are nodes accessible in the network via their default MAC addresses, this may be due to one of the reasons listed below:

·         The correct network adapter was not selected.

·         One of the protocols was deactivated for the selected adapter.

·         The DLC protocol is not installed.
Remedy: Installation of the DLC protocol is described in the Configuration Manual Primary Setup Tool.

5.6        Error message “Supported interfaces: 4"

If the error message “Supported interfaces: 4” is displayed when you start the menu command Settings -> Network Adapter, this may be due to the reason listed below:

·         There are more network cards registered in the Control Panel of your PC than actually exist on your PC. Make sure that only the network cards currently installed on your PC are registered in the Control Panel.

5.7        Error message "An error occurred in the underlying driver"

If the error message “An error occurred in the underlying driver” is displayed when you start the menu command Network > Browse, this may be due to the reason listed below:

·         The correct version of the DCP or DLC driver is not installed.
Remedy: Please contact support.

5.8        Error message "An unexpected error has occurred. Please repeat the function."

If the error message “An unexpected error has occurred. Please repeat the function.” is displayed when you start the menu command Module > Download, this may be due to one of the reasons listed below:

·         The network adapter that you have selected in your PC has been disabled in the Control Panel or in the BIOS.

·         The addressed module is still starting up.

5.9        Web browser does not display the configuration page of the INC

If the "The page cannot be displayed" page appears in the browser when you start the menu command Module > Start INC Browser, this may be due to the reason listed below:

·         None of the network adapters in the PC is located in the same subnet as the INC.
Remedy: Set the subnet mask of your network adapter to the subnet of the INC or use a router that connects both subnets.

5.10   Router address

It is possible that a different router address from the configured address is displayed in the parameters of the Ethernet interface. This happens when the module is currently using a different router from the configured router.

5.11   Interrupting setup

If you interrupt setup, files that have already been copied may be left in the installation folder. It is advisable to run the setup once completely and then, if required, to uninstall the Primary Setup Tool by selecting the "Primary Setup Tool" entry in Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.

5.12   Downgrade of Primary Setup Tool V4.1 to Primary Setup Tool V4.0

1. Uninstall the Primary Setup Tool V4.1

2. Install the Primary Setup Tool V4.0
