Cubes are first-class database objects for storing measures with the same dimensions and, typically, the same aggregation rules.
Schema: The schema in which the cube is created.
Name: A simple name for the cube object, adhering to the rules for first-class database object names. Enter underscores where you want spaces in the default labels.
Analytic Workspace: The name of the analytic workspace in which the cube is created.
Advanced: Displays the advanced options on the Create Cube dialog box, which include Aggregation Rules, Aggregation Precomputes, Partition, Storage, and Build Specifications. The advanced options are always displayed on the Edit Cube dialog box.
Short Label: A short descriptive name for display where space is limited, which can contain mixed case, spaces, and symbols.
Long Label: A long descriptive name for display, which can contain mixed case, spaces, and symbols.
Description: Additional descriptive text, which can contain mixed case, spaces, and symbols.
Available Dimensions: Displays a list of all dimensions defined for the analytic workspace but not selected for this cube. Move selected dimensions between Available Dimensions and Selected Dimensions.
Selected Dimensions: Displays a list of the dimensions selected for this cube. All measures in the cube are defined with these dimensions.
The dimension order is extremely important for uncompressed cubes. To reorder the list, select a dimension and click the up arrow or the down arrow. These are the basic guidelines:
List the time dimension first to expedite data loading and time series analysis. Time is often a dense dimension, although it may be sparse if the detail level is Day or the cube has many dimensions.
List the sparse dimensions in order from the one with the most members to the one with the least.
