Business analysis is performed on historical data, so fully defined time periods are vital. A time dimension table must have columns for period end dates and time span. These required attributes support comparisons with earlier or later time periods. If this information is not available, then you can define Time as a User dimension, but it cannot support time-based analysis.
You must define a Time dimension with at least one level to support time-based analysis, such as a custom measure that calculates the difference from the prior period.
