Attributes provide information that is characteristically nonadditive about individual dimension members.
Attributes
Lists the defined attributes. OLAP defines basic attributes automatically. For all dimensions, it creates LONG_DESCRIPTION
and SHORT_DESCRIPTION
attributes. For time dimensions, it also creates TIME_SPAN
and END_DATE
attributes. You can create other attributes. You must map all attributes to their data sources.
Click the Add icon to add a new attribute.
Click the Delete icon to delete the selected attribute.
Click a value to edit it.
Name: The object names of attributes defined for this dimension. When you add an attribute, it appears with a default name, labels, and description.
Short Label: A short descriptive name for display where space is limited, which can contain mixed case, spaces, and symbols.
Long Label: A long descriptive name for display, which can contain mixed case, spaces, and symbols.
Description: Additional descriptive text, which can contain mixed case, spaces, and symbols.
Attribute Properties
Role: A classification of the attribute. Some attribute types must be defined in an analytic workspace for it to be fully functional.
Table: Dimension Attribute Roles identifies the attribute roles.
Dimension Attribute Roles
Attribute | Description |
---|---|
|
Any attribute that does not have a specially defined purpose. User attributes are typically used for selecting dimension members. |
|
Long descriptive names typically used for identifying dimension members in selection lists, crosstabs, and graphs. |
|
Short descriptive names that can be used by applications instead of the long names. |
|
The last day in a time period. This attribute is required for time dimensions to support time-based analysis, such as prior period or period-to-date. |
|
The number of days in a time period. This attribute is required for time dimensions to support time-based analysis. |
Create Level Attribute Columns in Views: Select this option to create additional columns for the attributes. For example, instead of one column for the LONG_DESCRIPTION
attribute for PRODUCT
, there are separate columns for TOTAL_LONG_DESCRIPTION
, CLASS_LONG_DESCRIPTION
, FAMILY_LONG_DESCRIPTION
, and so forth. Oracle Business Suite Enterprise Edition requires these columns for its queries. The additional columns also facilitate queries that join dimension views to cube views.
Index: Improves the performance of attribute-based queries. The creation of an index adds maintenance time and increases the size of the analytic workspace, which may become an issue for extremely large dimensions.
Detect Data Type: Select this option for Oracle OLAP to set the data type of the measure based on its mapping to a relational source. Before you map the measure, it is set initially to NUMBER
. When the measure is mapped, Oracle OLAP synchronizes the data type of the measure with the source column before loading the data.
Data Type: Choose a data type that matches the data type of the source data. Depending on your selection, you may set the following additional parameters. You may not be able to change the data type or a parameter setting after loading the data, if one or more values is incompatible with the new setting.
Size: The maximum length in bytes for text data types.
Precision: The maximum number of significant decimal digits for NUMBER
attributes.
Scale: The number of digits from the decimal point to the least significant digit for NUMBER
attributes.
Apply Attributes to: Select the objects that the attributes apply to; otherwise, you cannot map the attributes to data sources. You can select these objects:
Dimension: Attributes are available for all hierarchies and levels.
One or more hierarchies: Attributes are available for all levels of the selected hierarchies.
One or more levels: Attributes are available for the selected levels of one or more hierarchies.
