Driver's Handbook

Bus Operating Essentials

Driving a bus is quite different from from driving a car. Even if the steering wheel and pedals are the same, driving is made more complicated by the sheer size of the bus, combined with its more limited maneuverability, and restricted view. Take your time to learn the behavior of your bus - practice turning and driving in lane, and try to learn to accelerate and brake smoothly.

All buses owned by our company are equipped with an automatic transmission, which features the automatic selection of reverse gear. By using the brake pedal while standing still, the reverse gear is automatically selected.

The dashboard of all SCS Transport buses contains three major areas:

Job Duties

A bus driver's duties include:

Passengers are allowed to enter or leave the bus only at bus-stops. For safety reasons, the driver must ensure that the vehicle is not moving when attempting to open passenger doors. Note that passenger doors can only be opened at designated bus-stops along the route.

Each route has a planned sequence of bus-stops. For each bus-stop on a route, there is a planned earliest time to close the doors and leave the bus-stop. Note that the comfort of passengers is valued more than being exactly on time - the driver should not ever leave passengers waiting on a bus-stop, by departing from the bus-stop prematurely.

The driver is responsible for the safety of their passengers. This includes not only compliance with all the traffic rules, but also special precautions regarding operating the vehicle. Special care must be taken with regard to braking method, as sudden intensive braking may cause passengers discomfort.

Driving routes are grouped into five tiers of increasing difficulty, with six routes in each tier. Once the driver proves their skill and experience in more than half of the routes in a given tier - by completing them successfully - the following tier is unlocked.

You may play any route from any unlocked tier, at your own discretion. In the main menu, use the Play button to enter the route selector menu. Before you start a route, be sure to review its briefing and driving instructions. Press the Enter key to play selected route.

The game saves your progress automatically whenever you finish a route.
